Got started on this trip on Friday September 25th and made it as far as Austin to hang out with my best friend Mary Kay. We did our girly sewing things etc, etc, etc. Saturday tootled on up to Dallas to spend the evening with my sister, Meredith and her two boys, Cullen and Connor. Today the RV made it to Memphis and is parked on the western shore of the Mississippi… Railroad horns echo across the water - there must be a rail crossing near by. There is a quarter moon tonight. As soon as I arrived, I took Angel, my high-maintenance Lab mix, out for an extended walk around the grounds of the RV park. This particular campground is right on the water’s edge and with the moon’s light shimmering off the water and a light breeze blowing, the dog and I could have walked around its grounds multiple times just enjoying the evening and scenery. But it was a long day’s drive so both of us reluctantly made our way back to the RV to eat and get a good night’s sleep.
One interesting note about running but not being able to hide from your past: as I was winding my way to this camp, I felt like I had been down this particular road before. About ¼ mile from the campground entrance, I noticed an oil terminal and refinery off to the right and it hit me: the refinery was once owned by Mapco Petroleum and I was the primary crude oil trader responsible for buying all the crude for the facility during the 80s! Never thought I’d ever see that refinery again…
