Great Inspiration on my first day of retirement

I was fortunate enough to be invited to a plaque presentation by a little 5 year old melanoma survivor and her awesome family to our mutual hero, Dr. Jeff Lee, surgical oncologist at MD Anderson. Rather than do poor justice to Marit's story (the precious 5 year old I referred to) let me post her website: http://maritmelanomafund.com/pg-63-2-about-marit.aspx which tells of her courageous battle against the 'beast' and the work Dr. Lee is doing to help her, the rest of us melanoma survivors and to ultimately eradicate melanoma as a disease.

While at MD Anderson today I met many of the behind-the-scenes folks who add their skills and caring to make MD Anderson the best cancer treatment center in the world (I'm not normally a hyperbole type of person but in this instance, the words are 100% true). From the hard-working, hard charging volunteer coordinators to the wonderful receptionists at the clinic desk to the development office folks to the melanoma researchers; all play a role in helping people like Marit and I fight literally for our lives. They may not be on the 'front line' like the doctors, p.a.'s and nurses are, but they are an essential force that the hospital could not do without...
